Don't Know What I am Doing

Hello. It is nice to read the thoughts and happenings of my fellow classmates. This picture is of me at a Hat Parade at the church I attend. I was on my Aunt's Red Hat team. We don't own any hats so we had to borrow them from a church member who wears hats like every Sunday. There was a contest for each hat color team. I won for the Red Hat team. Woohooo!! The team consisted mostly of my aunt's and cousins. In the picture the only person I really don't know is the lady sitting down. She goes to our church. The little girl with the holes in her face is Mikenzie, 8, she is my cousin.
I have never blogged before- that is why I said "don't know what I am doing." :)

Should I buy or not buy....

The end of the year is approaching very fast and I've always heard that the end of the year is the best time to get a new car. I have a Toyota Camry now and it has been good to me; however, it's ten years old. I always said that I wanted to wait until I graduated from UNCW before I purchase a new car. However, I keep getting the urge to go on down to the car lot and pick me up one of these

That's right, A Toyota Avalon. I love this car in charcoal so I'm going to see how much longer I can hold out.....decisions...decisions....decisions.... Have a good week everyone! :)

Recently Engaged

As the title suggests I am recently engaged. Actually it happened right around the time of our last blog entries. August 7th to be exact. My fiancee's proposal wasn't exactly traditional. He just asked while we were in the car (l0l). He had taken me to pick out my engagement ring the day before but he hadn't actually asked me. The circumstances around the time that this happened made quite unusual so I didn't care that he didn't get down on one knee. I only cared about the happiness I felt and the joy I saw in his face. My fiancee was deployed when we received the news that his older brother had passed away so he was brought back for 2 weeks. During this time is when he proposed. I know this might seem like an awful time to get engaged but it worked well for us. His mother was so down and depressed that my fiancee just grabbed my ring and showed her. I wasn't there at the time but he said she started crying tears of joy. W
e don't plan on getting married for at least 2 years. I would like him to be out of the military, for me to have my degree or to be close to being done, and I would like to have some money saved up to actually pay for a wedding. Our story is a little different and not very traditional but I wouldn't change a thing.

Today's my birthday!

Hi everyone! You guessed it by the title, today is my birthday! I'm probably the Old Lady in the class, but I don't feel old, except when I am doing my daily couch to 5K. My parents are visiting from Ohio and we are going out to Chili's tonight to celebrate my birthday with my kids. When you get my age and have been married for almost 24 years, it is hard for people to buy gifts for me. I did however receive some of the most beautiful flowers from my husband that is in Twenty Nine Palms, CA. (Oct. 3rd, return date!).
I am enjoying Spanish for Educators, as I had a hard time in Spanish 111 and was shocked that I got a B. When you are older, it is hard to learn a different language and I took Latin in high school, many years ago. I like the way Jorge takes his time and pronounces words slowly, unlike the My Spanish Lab people. I am hoping for fall like weather soon! Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

April Marlow - My fur baby Max

In 2002, I was a sophomore at UNCW, living off campus with two close friends. When I went home over winter break, I was over at a friend's house when his Mom brought in three puppies. At only five weeks old, I knew instantly that I had to have Max!

Over the past nine years, he has truly become the best dog a girl could ask for.

He is part basenji - part beagle, and 100% cute. In his older age, he's much more mellow and enjoys a day of long naps and pets. He's pretty well trained, unless there's a squirrel around!

He loves to go on hikes and play in streams. In fact, he's with us at the beach this week and is having a blast! Although it seems like he may have ingested a little too much salt water yesterday, but he's not letting it slow him down.

It's corny to say, but Max really is one of my best friends! He's always there to comfort me when I'm stressed, and he's always down to have a good time!

My favorites

Ashton and Carmen- her favorite place to sit

In the car in her winter jacket

Carmen sunbathing!

My mom and I in New York- 2011

I have three dogs, Carmen who is a Taco Bell dog! Bella (Black dog - pictures of her on my other computer) who I got from the pound, she would rather be outside hunting for lizrads to kill then sitting inside. Ashton who is I got for my 10th Birthday and is getting very old and harder for her to move. I love my dogs and taking them for walks, of course not all at once. I usually take my Bella, as she continues to walk at my speed the whole time and also enjoys the beach. My ankle biter also likes to run and she enjoys sunbathing at the beach with me on her own towel. They are my children and love all of them!!! I also love dressing Carmen up, she has great clothing choices for all seasons :)! Of course I can not forget about my mother who has been there for me through everything, including the death of my father. She is my rock and best friend and I treat everyday like it is the last because you never know.

Kids say the darndest things...

This is from last winter, but thought it was a funny video to share.  Not only does Jordyn, my daughter, completely tear into some fried chicken, her last comment says it all!  She is definitely the comedian and resident goofball, and we have a great time just listening to things that come out of her mouth.  I don't know how many of you have read Sh*t My Dad Says (the TV show was horrible), but we have often made note of  Things That Jordyn Says and I'm pretty sure it'd be hard to beat.  She. Is. A. Trip.  Enjoy!

Jorge - u6 blog 2

Thanks everybody for the postings you made in unidad 3. You have a lot of very good pictures. Please keep doing that. I also like that you titled your posts. That helps me figure out easier who made postings. This is a video of Puddin Pie. She's the sweetest cat. She had a hard time letting me pet her but she's done that many times now. We've got her since she was a little kitten. She's the most agile cat ever. I've never been able to catch her when I want to get some kitty attention and she doesn't feel like. This is Puddin "stressed out" during the Irene aftermath.

My 2 new friends................

Hello everyone! My name is Elizabeth.

This is my first semester and UNCW and it has been a little challenging. I have to get use to juggling my course load along with working full time. In the mean time, it seems I have two little friends to help brighten my day. Earlier this summer a stray cat was hanging around my house and then a second one came along. It was so hot outside and I felt sorry for them so I started giving them water and bread. Then I started buying them cat food, so I guess you can say I have adopted them now :) Now I have to make a vet appointment and make sure they are healthy. I never thought I could own pets because I wasn't fond of any animals. Now, I see why pets are so lovable.

Ashley Hornberger

Hi everyone! My name is Ashley Hornberger. I'm a busy full-time student, girlfriend, and mother. I am a junior at UNCW and so far, enjoying my first semester. Along with a heavy load of school work, my personal life is going to be busy over the next couple of months. At the end of this month, on the 28th, my boyfriend (Jason) and I will celebrate 5 years together. We are actually engaged but I haven't broke the habit of still calling him my boyfriend yet. We hope to get married after I complete my degree. Our daughter, Isabella, will be turning three in November. She is looking forward to dressing up as Cinderella for Halloween next month. We are all originally from around Lumberton, NC but have enjoyed living in Brunswick County for the past two years.

Me

This is Jason and Isabella (as a baby).

A family picture taken last year on top of Holden Beach bridge, near where we live.

My most recent picture of Isabella (and her first Barbie).

Hey everyone! My name is Erika Murray, I am in my third year at UNCW. This year has brought a lot of changes for my family. In the picture is my Mom, my Dad and my little sister Mariel at her High School graduation. My sister graduated from high school last year and is now a freshman at UNC-Chapel Hill. Since my sister and I are the only children in the family my parents are now "empty nesters" and are working on adjusting to that new lifestyle. While they are adjusting to having both my sister and I in college, they are adjusting to living in a Sorority house!! My mother is the faculty advisor for a Christian sorority at UNC-Chapel Hill. This year the sorority is living in a house for the first time, and my parents are the "house parents." So, instead of having only 2 girls in the house, they now have 30 (some of the girls in the picture to the right)!!! And, instead of going home to the house I moved out of, I go home to a sorority house downtown. It is a big adjustment, but at the same time very exciting.

Lynn McIntosh Current Status

I am a single parent right now until my husband returns from EMV, Twenty Nine Palms, CA on October 3rd. I was a single parent from July 2010 until Feb. 2011 and went to school full time. I just picked up my Associates Degree from Coastal Carolina Community College last week and I took the writing part of the Praxis today. I am taking the test in three parts, so I won't stress out too much. My oldest, Jacob, is completing his AA degree from Coastal this year, while my daughter, Kacie, just started High School on Camp Lejeune. My youngest, Noah, started a new school as well, as the base schools revamped their schools to service their home children. Noah now goes to Delalio and receives his special education service there. I have to take my mini van to Yopp's tire this week for four new tires, alignment and oil change this week, get a hair cut, take my youngest to his follow up from his dental surgery he had the week classes started and keep my house in order and feed my children. I am a busy mom, but like to keep busy, sit on my patio and do my school work at nights. Below is a picture of my family when my husband returned from Afghanistan.

Beth Edmonds

Hello everyone. My name is Beth Edmonds and this is my 1st semester at UNCW but my 3rd year of college. I transferred from Carteret Community College in Morehead City, NC to finish my degree in Elementary Education. Since school started this semester a lot of things have happened to me. I am living on my own for the first time and living in a big city for the first time. Also my wonderful boyfriend was deployed in July so I am adjusting to him being gone as well. I currently hold a part time job as a driver for a family's daughter who takes horseback riding lessons and has soccer practice. I couldn't ask for a better job. I drive their daughter to lessons and drive her home. Very simple and easy job that doesn't ware me out and also works well with school. I am still new around here and know a few people that came from my high school but haven't met any new people quite yet. That is why I am trying to get involved in clubs and school activities. The pictures I included are of me and my boyfriend Erin. He is 6'5" so I look like a midget in all of the pictures.

Courtney Michael

Hi everyone! I'm Courtney Michael and the handsome Marine in the picture with me is my husband Nick. He is a Sergeant in the Marine Special Operations Command (MARSOC) and is in his 5th year of service. I Am currently in my fourth year of school but this is only my second semester at UNCW. I am from Des Moines, Iowa where I was born and raised and I recently transferred to UNCW so I could move here and finish school and be with my husband since he is finally on a break from being deployed so often. I am majoring in Elementary Education and I have my concentration in Behavioral Sciences. I love working with kids and I can't wait until we start a family of our own.

We have been married for over three and a half years and we had to wait until just last October before we were able to have a real wedding and reception. It was great to have all of our family and friends together to finally celebrate our marriage. It was one of the first times Nick was actually able to come home and stay for a couple of weeks on his post-deployment leave after getting back from Afghanistan. Here are just a couple of pictures from our wedding I would like to share with everyone!

April Marlow - Anniversary

In one week, my husband and I will be celebrating our first wedding anniversary!

It's strange because in some ways it feels like it can't possibly have been that long since he proposed on the steps of the Federal Building on Water Street...

and in other ways it feels longer!

My husband and I were best friends for over a year before we dated. And then we dated for three years before we were engaged. Add to that the year and a half of our engagement, and I guess it makes sense to feel like it has been longer than a year!

Next week is our anniversary on the 18th of September, and in that same week my husband will be celebrating his 30th birthday!

To surprise him, I've rented a beach house for the entire week. And aside from school work, it's going to be so nice to not be working! And since we actually don't live down in Wilmington anymore, it will be so nice to see the beach! And for Parrish, it will be nice to eat seafood for nearly every meal!

This is a picture of my kids on Canada Day (July 1st) on Parliament Hill in Ottawa with the RCMP (Mounties).

This picture was taken after my son played some ice hockey this summer (note the UNCW shirt!).

This sign is seen on the highways ~ better to see the sign, than the moose ~ they can do some serious damage to a car!

Every year my kids and I go back to Canada for 3-4 weeks, we always do the "Canadian" thing while there; ice skating, hockey, pictures with R.C.M.P, eating at Tim Horton's (a Cnd donut place). I have lived in the US for 18 years (I have dual citizenship) but have been able to go back to Ottawa every year but 2...as my kids have gotten older they have come to really enjoy the visits. The kids and I are very blessed; my parents live at N. Topsail Beach for 6 months in the winter and we go up to see them in Canada every summer - best of both worlds in my opinion!

The first photo shows my sister Aliana and I at the Lost Coast near her hometown in California. It was beautiful. The next is my daughter aka pup Nalu. I caught this photo of her enjoying the sunset at the lake last summer.. tell me that isn't heavenly! The next and my boyfriend Benton and I in Atlanta last year. He surprised me with a trip over my birthday and took me to see my favorite band in concert at the Fox Theater.

Homecoming :)

As of 12 hours ago, my husband returned to us from Afghanistan.  He left in February and we are so very happy to have him back!  If he weren't at work right now, I would not even be on the computer ;)

We have a great family weekend planned and we can't wait to spend some quality time with him, and with one another; as a family once again.  This was his third deployment and hopefully his last, we missed him so very much the last 7 months and are ecstatic he's finally home.

He is my very best friend and I would not be the person I am today if it weren't for him.

Fishing - Taylor Burke

My boyfriend is a commercial fisherman and when he is not on the big boat fishing to make money, we take the little boat out for pleasure. I am not a fisher, but I love being on a boat and getting some sun! I have caught one fish my whole life, I like to catch the motor and docks :) he hates when I have  a fishing pole! I love being on the water and could not live anywhere where there was not a beach!

I saw this in the morning of today (9/8). I was leaving Kenansville on my way to Jacksonville. Beautiful.
I can think of some words related to the video:

sunrise - amanecer
red - rojo
speed - velocidad
beautiful - hermoso
